What happened
A visiting snowboarder at Yakebitai in Shiga Kogen became separated from companions, and a companion reported them missing at about 15:30. Rescuers searched and found the snowboarder outside the course at about 17:30. The snowboarder was taken to hospital in cardiac arrest and died just after 01:00 the next day; reports gave suffocation as the cause. Reports said the place was near an ungroomed advanced slope with a maximum gradient of 39 degrees, and that police were looking into whether the snowboarder had gone outside the course deliberately or strayed from it.
About 15:30 is when a companion reported the snowboarder missing (search snippet, earlier review). abn (search result) gives about 18:30 for the ski patrol's call to police after finding the snowboarder outside the course; the record earlier said found about 17:30. Died just after 01:00 on the 23rd (secondary report).
